Last week I downloaded NetBeans IDE 5.0, and today found time to look at it. Although it is freeware, but it is the most powerful IDE I've ever seen.

By considering that:
  1. Java developers can write Java Applets, Java Applications, Web Application, and Mobile Applications using a single IDE
  2. Java developers can deploy your product on a wide range of devices
  3. There are many freeware Java libraries available to Java developers
I feel really regret about being a Windows developer for more than a decade.

It's not late to switch to Java, is it?

No, It's not. Alhought saying that JAVA is good, because it works on wide range of platforms is like saying anal sex is good because it works on both genders and animals too. But would you want to be involved in such way with goat?

Johnny_Bit,

Objection! I can see you are fanatic about Delphi.

I have friends developing applications on Java for many years, and all of them are happy.

kokkaros,

Because of my job I can't do it. However, I'll try to increase my knowledge and skill on Java.

Kambiz, I'm not fanatic abut Delphi. Personally now I dislike it.

I do like the whole idea behind JAVA, but have you ever tryed Sun Solaris and it's Java Desktop Manager? or compare how well app works (eg. how fast)? I mean JAVA is great and all, but overrated. I would rather try ISO C++. It does need to recompile, but some apps just need recompile, and works both fast and stable. And works on various architectures. Have you ever tryed NetBSD? It even runs on toaster! My microwave has it. Think of it.

I already knew Java code is much slower than a native code, and I knew Java on Solaris is a mess. But, at least I do not pay money for something that tomorrow may doesn't fit to any business.

By the way, Java developers have better job opportunities and more salaries than we have.

Kambiz, you're right. But since I know delphi/pascal, c, c++, php, perl, (insert here many programming languages that i'm not able to enumerate while intoxicated), and I'm highly adaptive, I bet my future isn't so bad. In the end I could still become: Math/Physics/Chemistry/IT teacher, karate sensei, artist4life(yes, I can draw... more or less). With my ego size of galaxy and intalligence with knowledge size of solar system I can even became master of crime... Damn, so many oportunities... Still java is tempting, but I can resist.

Yes. Smile But it was not always in this way. It's a few years that I moved in my own country.

Yes, we have lot of problems because of the religious regime, but it doesn't mean I cannot work as an off-shore developer.
